Open Weekends and Sunny Afternoons
Open Weekends and Sunny Afternoons documents a road trip from Bristol to
North Wales, visiting places such as Pontypool, Abergavenny, Crickhowell,
Tretower, Talgarth, Bronllys, Hay-on-Wye, Llyswen, Erwood, Builth Wells, Rhayader,
Pontarfynach, Aberystwyth, Barmouth, Harlech, Portmeirion, Mount Snowdon, Llanberis,
Bettws-y-Coed, Llanrwst, Bodnant Garden, Llandudno, Conwy, Bangor, Plas Newydd, and Caernarfon.
In North Wales in particular, my third great grandfather F. W. Broadhead visited from Leicester
to create photographs which were exhibited by the Royal Photographic Society in London as part
of their annual exhibition. Visiting many of these locations along with others selected out of
personal interest was a highly relevant, memorable and nourishing experience.
